BAM! It’s a McFight!

Congratulations, Barack Obama!

Just came out that he won Montana, while Hillary won South Dakota. As the final day of the primaries, today also came down to the final state delegates making their final choice. Lots of finals. It was an insanely close race, but Obama crossed the delegate mark… which gets him the official Democratic Nomination.

I’m torn with how I feel. I know the majority of you who read this are conservative…. are disappointed that either of them were even in the race. But at the end of the day – this is my soap box…. 🙂 🙂 But keeeeep reading!! haha

I am so disappointed that Hillary isn’t going to get the nomination. I am ready for a woman President. I am ready for a Hillary Presidency. On the other hand, I am more than okay with Barack, and the tiny bit of political-mindedness that I’ve picked up over the years knows that Obama has a better chance of beating McCain than Clinton would have. Matt and I stayed with his Aunt and Uncle last night in Fort Payne, Alabama. I thoroughly enjoyed them – they were lovely, but anyway — they brought up the election, and his Uncle said that the had heard that Obama DID offer Hillary the Vice Nomination and that she accepted. This is of course unofficial. We discussed the pros and cons of an Obama/Clinton ticket. It’s an interesting idea and one that I was so excited about early in the primaries. I thought it would be the best of both words. Personally – I still think it’s an awesome plan… it would be Hillary as a force of nature, fighting for Universal Healthcare and Obama – able to politically appeal to a larger percentage of the population. Truth of the matter is, no matter how much I love Hillary, she burned a lot of bridges with the American public in how she handled the Lewinsky scandal back in the day.

But – back to tonight. His acceptance speech was incredible — he didn’t base it on his being the first African-American… he applauded Hillary for getting so far and continuing her fight and for being the first woman to get so far. He showed much respect and appreciation for her leadership and for her fight, saying he was privileged to have such a strong competitor. It is politicking to say such things, but at the same time — I’m at least thinking… and hoping… that it was in part to set the country up, set his staff up, set Hillary up… for an announcement of her as his Vice Presidential candidate.

The highlights of the speech:: (there were more – but here are two of the best)

“America – this is our time…. to offer a new direction for this country we love.”

“We need to be as careful getting out of this war as we were careless getting into it. “

—and right now on CNN — “this makes us proud. this is a time to be proud.”

True. True. True.

Change will come. Patience. And undying hope and belief. I think he can offer it to us. He has the nomination, so I’m letting go of my hopes and dreams and utter belief in Hillary and handing it over to him. This Obama vs Mccain McFight – it’s going to be good and it’s going to be messy. But just like Obama said tonight — nearly the entire country agrees right now that we need CHANGE. We disagree one how that change should come and what the exact change should be, but we all tend to agree that we need CHANGE. And like he said — McCain has agreed with Bush, voted in alignment with Bush, 98% of the time. With McCain – there is no change.

Vote for change.

We really frikkin’ need it.

And- Hillary – I’m hoping she steps up and starts really showing support for Obama. It sucks, but it’s time for us all to come together and make this happen. We need togetherness in the Democratic party.

One last thing – and I’ll stop rambling…

someone on CNN just made the comment that tonight really IS going to go down in history. It so is. It’s so cool to be a part of this going on right now, to be watching this, to see his speech. Older African-Americans, all around the country, are probably going… Wow. I never thought I’d live to see this day. In this time and place when racism is still so evident and in existence in our country – THIS is a feat of greatness in our country.

I can’t wait to see what happens.
